This deftones track...
07.26.04 (11:01 pm) [edit]
"My Own Summer" is really good. It's 1 in the morning here and I'm just chilling listening to this song over and over again. Pretty soon I'm going to watch Spider-Man (the animated 67 series on tv). There are other great things keepin me entertained today, but it's good to have em all going on near each other. Like for instance, my listening to music I like a lot before watching Spiderman. See, because it's something different, yet just as kick-ass as the activity I was previously engaged in. I wish life was like that everyday, where cool things would just happen back to back to back all day from start to finish and that'd be your day. That's all I would want. It'd be awesome. Maybe that's how it goes once you're dead. Or maybe not. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm... so yeah I've been on the computer for like more than 12 hours basically straight and I'm a bit wacky right now. Ummm, but today I also played "Age of Empires 2: Conquerors Expansion" and both my battles were 3.5 hours long. In the first one I was a Chinese empire, and I beat down these other two civilizations I was like "Hey, An Zu zu whatever ya call yaself, ggggiiiiiiiiittttttttt outta here!"
Uh oh the deftones track switched, now it's too mellow. Time to switch to something awesome (just as).
I switched to Aphex Twin. It's not really "rocking" per se. But it'd really cool to listen to. And it's even cooler now because of my state... The state of -=0-
WHOA! Okay I got sidetracked here, I'll have to finish that lame joke some other time. Ahh it feels like I have bugs crawling on me sometimes when I get itchy. I have a big fro though so sometimes it does happen. Anyway, what this whole "whoa" was all about was how these certain instruments just kicked in on this Aphex track and how it sounded so great. I think I smell funny. I haven't showered for a few days, or brushed my teeth for a really long time. It's pretty wacky!!!! So yeah. ummm, Buffy is a good show. I will have to make blogs based on it later... Goodbye! (I know this is going to sound weird when I read it later again...)

In a pathetic new attempt to add interest to my weblog, the "post your caption" blog a few blogs back (the one with my friend Craig) will now be a contest, just so I can get some replies. 50 tbucks to the response I like the best.

07.24.04 (11:33 am) [edit]
So I'm sure that anyone who visits either Jingy Joe's Blog or Sarna Delitro's Information Database knows that there is much activity going on with the organization and whatnot. Also, the addition of Fartham "The Philosopher" Davinson is sparking up a lot of heat as well. So with that out of the way, let me get to my blog of today.
... I just killed two flies at once here with a swish of a dishtowel.
No that isn't the subject, I just thought I'd mention that because they were driving me insane. The topic today is none other than videogames. Or more specifically, a videogame. So now, I would like us all to take a minute and bowdown to EARTHBOUND! Earthbound (known as Mother 2 in Japan) is perhaps the greatest game ever created. This Super Nintendo classic is an RPG which chronicles the adventures of Ness, Paula, Jeff, and Poo as they travel the world and travel through time in order to stop the maniacal Giygas from universal destruction. The storyline is very creative and humourous, the graphic style (complete with psychadelic battle backgrounds) is quite unique, the music is nice and quirky, the enemies interesting (New Age Hippies anyone?), and so on and so forth. I could go on and on about the game, but there is a much better more comprehensive Earthbound site already available, and that is Starmen.net . I urge all reading this who are interested in great videogames to look up Earthbound, track it down at a local game store, and play it a whole bunch. So yeah, Earthbound is amazing. The end.

Delitro's Online Organization
07.23.04 (9:30 am) [edit]
|
I have just been called up by my former boss Sarna Delitro, and she has told me that in an increased effort to track down Jingy Joe and keep tabs on all other major forces in her operations, she is having several members of the organization, past and present, follow her lead and start online journals. I would not be surprised if many of these blogs popped up on the internet soon. I am wondering just how "willing" some of the participants will be, or if Sarna is holding something against them that will keep them in line. Very curious. As for me, I have still nothing new to add to the pot really. This is Organization business, not mine.

SERIES OF UNFORTUNATE EVENTS BOOK 11!
07.22.04 (8:07 pm) [edit]
Wow, I'm excited about this. Amazon has a deal where if you pre-order the next Series of Unforunate Events book (The Grim Grotto), you get the first chapter! Once I read it I'll be back here to edit my post with reactions. If you want to find it, head over to 667 Dark Avenue to find more! I think I'm going to cream myself over having to wait to get home and read it. YEAYEYUAHYEAHYHYHYUH!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
*EDIT* So I read the first chapter of "The Grim Grotto", and it was very nice to have some fresh Lemony Snicket material. The bit about the water-cycle being boring, and also the little snippet about red shoes with buckles (read the first chapter to understand) were very funny. One thing I have to do though, is go back and re-read the first ten because I can't remember a lot of the events that directly precede the opening of The Grim Grotto. It was a bit hard to picture in my head without remembering how exactly The Slippery Slope ended. But I'll re-read them soon enough. Right now I'm going through the series with my girlfriend, and we've finished the first two together (we read aloud to one another) and next up is The Wide Window. Anyhow, as I mentioned in my Harry Potter post, my mom and sister got me a couple gifts on their vacation, and whilst one was a Harry Potter guide, the other was a Series of Unfortunate Events magic 8 ball. Heh. It says things like "Don't Ask", or "I'm Afraid So" and things of that nature. It is the cool.

How pathetic am I?
07.22.04 (7:08 pm) [edit]
I was just about to do a blog recapturing the events of Genesis using smiley-faces to tell the story. Despite the fact that it is a completely retarded, black, gay, jewish idea, I should be the last one to think of such an idea since I no pretty much nothing about the Bible, let alone the book of Genesis. I always associate the word with SEGA. That's just how I roll man. I roll with SEGA. Actually no I was always more of a nintendo kid, and then a playstation adolescent... but getting back to my point about the bible, I've never read it.
Hell, when I hear a familiar passage from the Old or New Testament but don't remember the origin, the first thought in my head is "Which movie/episode of simpsons is that from?". So I think from here on out I'm going to subject everyone else to what I've been going through, and every so often I'll use quotes from "The Poopheadpoop Bible" and/or movie quotes and keep people wondering where they're from. Stupid idea? Yes. Am I bored and have nothing else to do? Yes. Was that last question grammatically abhorrent? Probably. So to conclude this entry, let me read a passage from The book of Ashton, on how one should spend their free time:
Ashton 3:22 And so it was, that whoever shall endeth up being bored, must find purpose and meaning in the posting of inane blogs. He who looks upon the online community scornfully is not to be accepted, but is to be block'd. Block'd from commenting, blogging, chatting, and all other forms of internet communication. He who does not respecteth this principle shall findeth something else to do or else give in to a workshift full of emptiness!
Oh God I'm bored.

Harry Potter!
07.21.04 (11:43 am) [edit]
I was going to post this originally like an hour ago, but then I got bogged down by spyware and adware crap. And now I'm eating lunch, so it'll probably take me even longer to finish, but oh well. My mom and my sister just got back from a vacation, and as gift they bought me the Ultimate Unofficial Guide to the Mysteries of Harry Potter to keep me busy. I've heard many good things about this book, and it looks like it'll be a good piece to have while re-reading the books. It covers 1 -4, but there is another edition which looks at clues in Order of the Phoenix in particular. Now, these days in Harry Potter land, all the buzz is on book 6, titled "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince". There is much speculation as to who this half-blood prince is, and some folks say it is none other than this man, Alan: I myself am not quite as convinced. But on the other hand, you never know. JK Rowling has pulled twists and turns before, and perhaps this "Alan" person really is the Half-Blood Prince. Despite the fact that there are no references in either the books or interviews with JKR herself to Alan, there are perhaps several reasons a reader should stick with this theory. I've come up with a few reasons and have listed them here: 1. Harry Potter likes to drink butterbeer I think this is pretty self-explanatory as to why Alan is the half-blood prince, but for those who lack the necessary intelligence, let me explain. Butterbeer is a drink that many wizards find tasty. Harry Potter drinks butterbeer. QED Alan is the half-blood prince. 2. Alan Rickman played Snape in the movies Okay so we all know that Snape is a dementor, that was shown to us right in the first chapter of Philosopher's Stone. But, what we weren't told (until Chamber of Secrets) is that Snape is also "a prince" (COS pg. 433) Mix in the fact that Alan has four letters in it, Snape has five letters in it, 5 - 4 = 1... There can only be 1 half-blood prince, QED Alan is the half-blood prince. 3. Dudley's nickname is Dudders I don't even need to tell you how this one works.
So there you go, a lot of reasons to believe in Alan. Like I said before though, I am not a believer in this theory. I'm sticking with Trelawney as the Half-Blood Prince.

I hate spyware/adware
07.21.04 (11:21 am) [edit]
|
Hey, it's me. Anywho, before I post what I wanted to in the first place, let me just bitch about spyware and adware for a moment. Not only do these frickin programs slow down the entire speed of my computer, but when I download programs that are supposed to take care of them, I'm bombarded with other spyware programs. Right now the main problem is some stupid search engine that hijacks my computer called Qwikylynx. Before that, it was Incredifind. These things just take over when I enter in url's and tell me the sites I'm looking for don't exist (when I know damn well that they do). I've tried removing them with Spybot, Ad-Aware, a registry editing program, etc... but to no avail. If somebody reading this has a really good solution for me, please fill me in. My computer is so full of this shit that it's almost as slow as a computer that would've been made 3 years ago. It's absolutely ridiculous. Even trying to add a blog is difficult due to the impromptu shutting down of programs, the endless pop-ups, and more. I can't take it!!! AGRHAGJRGAJRA!!!!!! HELP!

The Prodigy
07.20.04 (6:49 pm) [edit]
The Prodigy (links to fansite) is a great group of musicians. Actually, as is the case with Nine Inch Nails, The Prodigy is more just one man. Liam Howlett.
Howlett's latest, "Always Outnumbered Never Outgunned" leaked out onto the internet a few weeks ago, and if you've read my entry about online music, you should be able to guess that I of course downloaded it as soon as possible. Copying my review from a forum I originally posted it on, here's what you get...
Well, for those coming on to this thread and reading dissapointing reactions, I'll add my two cents to counter. See, I genuinely like the album and from what I've read on other Prodigy forums, the reason most people have said they didn't like it is because it wasn't what they were expecting. It wasn't Music For The Jilted Generation pt. 2, or Fat of the Land pt. 2, but is something totally different. Instead of devoting this post to why others might have felt the way they did though, I'll talk about why I feel the way I do about Always Outnumbered Never Outgunned.
The feel throughout is sort of a mix between electronic-punk (I know it's been said many times) with songs like "Action Radar" and "Hotride" (the latter being my favourite track at the moment), and some Eastern influence is heard as well in "Medusa's Path", "Phoenix" and more. The hip-hop presence seen on FOTL comes in the form of tracks like "Wake Up Call" and "Get up Get Off", and while I'm not sure why Maxim didn't do any rapping, I for one am sort of glad that I didn't have Keith Flint yelling at me all the time. The variety was nice.
The album-ender "Shootdown" uses samples from the binned Prodigy song "Trigger", and it takes the best elements of that track and mixes it in with the vocal stylings of Liam Gallagher. I like this one a lot, and do not see it as filler as some others do. This is not to say that the album does not have any filler ("Memphis Bells" has worn out on me I think, though the album version with vocals is much nicer, and "You'll Be Under My Wheels" doesn't blow me away) but think about previous Prodigy albums. FOTL and MFTJG were not straight through classics as some would like to remember them. ("Serial Thrilla" or "One Love" anyone? Not to mention way more on Experience...) That being said, I would have to say that I wouldn't place this album above Jilted, but who knows what I'll have to say in time? It has a 'grower' feel to it, and so while I'm less enthusiastic about some songs on AONO, that could change. I know I couldn't stand "Fuel My Fire" off FOTL in the beginning, but now it's one of my faves. (Note to self: Is the word "faves" still in?)
Anyway, I know each listener is going to have their own opinion, but just to balance out the negative comments with some positive ones, there's my short take on The Prodigy's "Always Outnumbered Never Outgunned"

So I'm in the middle of work (well not really middle, not that close) and I'm watching the Nine Inch Nails webcam and absolutely nothing is going on. Every so often somebody walks by or someone sits down at the computer. It's not really all that interesting. But I'm listening to Aphex Twin's "I Care Because You Do" so it's bit more interesting than it would otherwise be. The cd just ended though so now I'm switching it up to Boards Of Canada with "Music Has The Right to Children ". It's quite relaxing. So to anyone reading this blog, go get this album. It's fantastic, as is the followup, "Geogaddi "
And on that note, ahsoidhfiasohfoasihfsaofh aso.

Jingy Joe's story
07.20.04 (12:05 pm) [edit]
There are a lot of things to cover in this entry. And as this weblog is meant to open windows for people to come and look into my life, I feel that some explaining is due. As I began to recount the story of Jingy Joe last night I was called up by another old acquaintance of mine. Her name was Sarna Delitro. Delitro is the head of an organization whose name I shall keep secret for now, but her work deals with otherworldly elements. Everything from UFO sightings to alien autopsy work, she looks into it. There have been innumerable hoaxes over the years, but I assure you, Sarna Delitro's job is not a hoax. I have had the pleasure of working with her the past who knows how many years. Now, Jingy Joe was also a part of this group, and the first time that I ever met him was at a Veteran's Day ceremony held in San Antonio, Texas. As a former soldier, Jingy Joe is always one to celebrate military functions. I was there because I had heard there were supernatural happenings going on in the area around that time. Another event happened during the ceremony, and soon things got out of hand. Jingy Joe took control of things and dealt with the situation as best as he could, but my assistance was needed to keep things normal. As a result of our working together, we developed a bond. After finding out we were working for the same group, we had numerous assignments together, and during one of these assignments Jingy Joe committed an act which was frowned upon by Delitro, and so as a result he was held in confinement until recently where he seems to have been released.
Anyway I know this stuff sounds really weird and all but I don't want to get into all the details. Anyway so Jingy Joe I've cleared things up on here and I can go back to my weblog how it was before, so yeah, there ya go.
Sorry. Things'll pick up soon here at the Wonderful World O' Nothin'!

Jingy Joe. "Who is this guy?" is what you're thinking, right? Well I guess in order to stop the confusion, I have a bit of explaining to do.
"Jingy" Joe is actually a very old acquaintance of mine. Having met at a Veteran's Day ceremony back in---
Oh jeez I gotta go. I'll finish this later. Very important!!!

07.19.04 (6:20 pm) [edit]

Well it seems I've added a crappy header onto my blog. All it says is "weblog". For some reason, when I cashed in my tbucks I thought I was going to get the same image except with "The Wonderful World O' Nothin'" on it. Nope. And it doesn't even cover the whole length of the site. Or width. One of the two. In other news, a hot girl just walked by me. (I'm still at work) Of course this girl was nowhere near as hot as my girlfriend. Wow. I did it. I used an emoticon sincerely, and ya know what? It didn't feel nearly as bad as I thought it would. Hmmm.

Ashton Francis here yet again. I've been at work for the past 4 hours, and I've got about another 3.5 to go. Things haven't been too busy here lately, so yeah. Right now I'm just listening to some Boards of Canada and relaxing. Perhaps later I'll play some online games. Yeah, I'm pretty lame.
But at least I have a girlfriend.
She told me I should write about her on this weblog. What she didn't specify was what sorts of things I could say about her. Her name is Katie and she is an ugly troll. She stinks and eats allllllllllllllllll da pies! But enough about her. Actually, no, let's talk about her more. She is white and 20. Heh, I lucked out big time there. I meant the 20 thing of course... We met at New Years 2 years ago and started dating last summer, so it's been over a year. I'll post a pic of her eventually so you can track her down and stalk her, but for now this piss-poor ascii representation will have to do.

I had a barbecue yesterday
07.19.04 (2:55 pm) [edit]
So as I had posted earlier, I wanted to have a barbecue on the weekend, so I did. Instead of giving a full run down of what went on though, I thought I'd pull out a few thoughts that arose from having this barbecue, and why I thought of them.
People who get tattoos are getting progressively stupider and stupider My friend Trevor brought over some ho from work to the BBQ, and while she had one tattoo on her leg I didn't see clearly enough, there was one which was quite noticeable. She had a tattoo on her boobie. It was poking out of the side of her bra, (not poking out completely) and it was a Coors Light logo. Coors frickin Light. Now, regardless of whether it was permanent or not (I doubt it was permanent), what could be a stupider idea for a tattoo than a beer company logo. I mean, Chinese symbols aside, it was lame. Although, all I ever heard her talk about during the night was how much she would drink. Drink drink drink, I got so drunk, blah blah pissed blah... Shut the hell up. She'll probably be lactating Colt 45 when she gets older. So, tattoos are dumb, but are made even dumber when the tattoos are for beer. I hate everyone.
Videogames kick ass I was playing Mario Party 5 on gamecube after eating, and man is it ever awesome. I love those party games. I've played various Mario Party's over the years, and I'd say that the game where you have to bang on the drums in the correct sequence, each person adding on, is the coolest. Playing it reminded me of how little I play my PS2 anymore. It seems like after I finished the weird-ass Final Fantasy x-2 I just haven't had the time, aside from creating random violence in Vice City. Yeah, videogames are cool.
Burgers taste good Okay you know what I'm going to abandon this particular post because I'm tired of remembering stuff.

This is the first day
07.19.04 (2:37 pm) [edit]
of my last days! Dun nuh nuh nuhh nuhh nana nuh! That's right. I'm listening to "Wish" by Nine Inch Nails . Trent Reznor (frontman / composer / pretty much the entirety of NIN) is amazing. He's written such excellent music, and his songs kick so much ass that I can't help but be thankful. So thank you, Trent.
Also, thank you Internet. Had I not been able to steal music from this great artist through the simplicity of clicking a button, I don't know where I'd be! Napster started it off, but personally my favourite music downloading application was Audiogalaxy. Seriously, it was so good! Type an artist, song, album, whatever, and you had results in seconds, and free music in seconds as well! Now anyone who really tries to argue that this isn't stealing is a dumbass. The "taping it off TV" argument doesn't really work well either, because with online music downloading you get what you want when you want it quickly. With the taping from TV, the person has to go through all the trouble of setting up the tape and finding the right channel and all this anyway, so after all the work they do it's basically like they've worked it off in terms of earning the cd. Yup, makes total sense. So with that in mind, let me confess that even with all the tools available online, I still buy cd's...
Okay okay, not all cd's. I mean, hell, I just got 21 KMFDM albums off of Suprnova the other day. But there are at least some albums I buy, which brings me back to Nine Inch Nails. Anyone who is familiar with Nine Inch Nails knows that Trent Reznor marks each official release with a "Halo" number. For instance, the first single "Down In It" was Halo #1, and the DVD release a couple years back "And All That Could Have Been" was Halo #17. So then the idea is that you collect halos, you get the entire collection, and everybody likes you ten times more for it. Yep. So I went out on a shopping spree the other day, and the only things I bought were NIN albums I had already downloaded.
I'm torn. Part of me is like, "keep buying these albums! Yeah!" And another part of me is like, "save your money and go buy something else you haven't heard yet!" I just don't know what to do man.
Wow. That was a boring blog.
